Columbia University Academic Programs (1964-2010)

Reid Hall celebrated its fortieth anniversary in 1963, a year before the property was gifted to Columbia University.

• in “Miss Leet presented her report. She spoke first of the Fortieth Anniversary which she felt had been a great success. Many French and Americans came to the various events which did a good deal for Franco-American cultural relations. She mentioned two gifts. One from Mrs. John F. Kennedy, an engraving of the White House, and another from the French Association of University Women. The Association had asked what Reid Hall would like in honor of the anniversary, and presented us with a projector and screen which have long been needed.

In his letter to Helen Rogers Reid, Grayson Kirk, President of Columbia University (January 7, 1964) states that Trustees of Columbia university accept the gift of Mrs. Ogden Reid

• “We are confident that at Reid Hall, Columbia University has a bright future and that this transfer of ownership will open up this splendid property to a new era of usefulness and enhanced service not only to the University but to the whole of American higher education."

• The director of Reid Hall will be a member of the Columbia Faculty. The post will be held this year by Professor Harold Barger, who has been Chairman of the Department of Economics. The resident Manager will be the permanent officer living at Reid Hall and most of the daily correspondence will be answered by heer. It is expected that an announcement of the appointment to this post will be made during the next few weeks.
